Project Description

The Entre contenções and Como vencer o grande cansaço? solos are two stages of the contemporary dance language research Eduardo Fukushima has been carrying out since 2007, based on autobiographical issues and feelings. The dancing is the question itself as will to power and generator of movement. The first piece uses the least possible amount of scenic elements, creating a dance that takes place in the rawness of space. The second solo is an answer to the question-title. The action emerges from physical weariness, from exhaustion. The choreography is built upon gestures and intentions within a specific movement combined with repetition and breathing. Despite the fatigue, the dance continues to be… fast.

Eduardo Fukushima is a choreographer, performer and teacher. He was granted the Rolex Mentor and Protègè Arts Initiative 2012-2013 Swiss scholarship to study in Taiwan for a year with choreographer Lin Hwain Min, artistic director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. He has worked with choreographers Ângelo Madureira and Ana Catarina Vieira, Célia Gouvêa, Luis Fernando Bongiovanni and Myako Kato. He received awards for the solos he will perform within Panorama Futuro.
